Eduverse

A Big New Idea

We are a long way from VR being a daily mainstay in every classroom but all students should leave K-12 with some exposure to these concepts. If you, or your students, don't learn what AI or VR technologies are outside of science fiction, they may be missing out on the next big thing. I do not think it is realistic to ask every teacher to become familiar with these devices but someone in the school should take the lead on making sure students have access to newly developing technologies.

What Did the Students Think?

I gave this survey to students after the first time we used Eduverse. During the lesson, students held a discussion with their peers in the auditorium where they explored identity and personality and then selected a peer to take the stage and share out the focus of their conversation. The class consists of primarily ESL students.

Is It Worth The Trouble?

At this point, there is research to support that VR in the classroom can increase student interest, motivation and engagement. With so many educators contending that the struggle to make students connect with the material, VR may just be the next step in making students enjoy learning.

As VR continues to gain traction in education, it is important to consider policies and procedures for best practice to ensure students safety. While it may produce favorable educational outcomes, it isn't safe for a student to live in a digital space for the entirety of their school day.
